If I did that, she would definetly love Strawberry Shortcake, Rainbow Brite and Punky Brewster, as I did as an 80's child!

It is SO fun to read this thread!!! You all are so right about these things. My daughter grew up in the eighties (born in 1980). I was busy adding to our family so these posts are bringing back a lot of memories I had forgotten.
= Handpainted sneakers & decorated vests. Remember these? They were everywhere! No one had ever decorated clothing so much as in the eighties. Fabric paint and gems embellished denim vests, denim skirts and sneakers. Lace was big on denim too.
= Malls. I remember when the first mall-related toy came out and parents were appalled. "Can you believe they are actually promoting SHOPPING!" many mothers were heard to say with total disgust. But girls loved the little bags, tiny credit cards and mall stuff for dolls.
= Scented toys and scented pens. Strawberry Shortcake started it all. Having a toy smell like something other than plastic was totally new. And scented markers were hot.
= Definitely the crimped and permed hair. Straight hair was SO uncool!
= Scrunchies. Tons of them. In every size, shape, color. Worn every which way in the hair, including on the wrist. Pattern companies eventually came out with scrunchie patterns and everyone was surprised at how simple they were to make.
=Leggings, striped tights.
The first American Girl of Today, 1995, wearing the purple tights with a big white shirt and decorated denim vest with a sunflower in her hat looked completely 80's to me.
